Beginning in Brooklyn

Yes, that's right. My name is Alexandra Petri, and I'm from Brooklyn, N.Y. I graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. of High Distinction in Journalism and International studies in 2009, and I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Yet as my college career came to an end, I asked myself, Well now what? I knew two things: I love to travel, and I love to write, and so I was determined to follow both passions. I've been lucky enough for the past few years of my life to have traveled extensively, all of which started with my study abroad trip to Italy in the spring of 2007. Since then, I've been all over the world visiting different countries and even had the chance to live in China while working at an English-language newspaper in Beijing. But my real adventure is just beginning, as I will be spending the next year living and working in Daegu, South Korea. I'm taking the next year to combine my love of writing and traveling and share it with everyone I know, because I am certain that the experiences and obstacles will be once in a lifetime opportunities. My overall goal is to publish a memoir, and I am excited to start writing this next chapter of my life.
